2024 Tramway Line 4.2 Piagge – Campi Bisenzio
Tram Line 4.2 connects the Le Piagge station to the town of San Donnino and up to the urban center of Campi Bisenzio, as the extension of Line 4.1 Leopolda-Piagge. Both the two lines constitute Tram Line 4 of strategic importance for the Florentine tram system and part of an intermunicipal system that connects the municipalities of Florence and Campi Bisenzio. The Definitive Project was developed on the basis of the Technical Economic Feasibility Project (PFTE) approved in August 2022 and financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Landscape Report, Urban Insertion, Green Works: ArchLandStudio – Prof. Arch. Lorenzo Vallerini, in collaboration with Arch. Lorenzo Nofroni and Dott.Agr. Ghita Fabbri
WHAT
Line 4.2, approximately 5.4 km long, interferes with three areas with Landscape Restriction and with a Nature 2000 Site – ZSC-ZPS IT 5140011 Wetlands of the Florentine and Prato Plains.
The Landscape Report verified the landscape compatibility of the project by evaluating the main designed works along the entire line.
The Urban Insertion connected the various aspects of the tramway project with the axes and rails of the line tracks, the stops, the existing and new roads, the parking lots, the cycle paths, the electric traction and lighting poles, the paving, the furnishings and the vegetation.
For the Green Works, a detailed survey of 446 trees, 1 hectare of hedges and shrubs and 4 hectares of woods was carried out, as the basis for green design:
- the measures of environmental compensation for the loss of 4 hectares of woodland have concerned new meso-hygrophilous-plain type and humid-hygrophilous type forest formations and wet meadow areas (3.6 ha) located in the two new hydraulic expansion basins of the project;
- the green works, to make the transformations resulting from the construction of the tramway compatible with the protection of the vegetation system, have an overall balance of the tree heritage of n. 1,299 trees (n. 225 trees maintained, n. 1,074 new trees and n. 221 trees felled) and a positive balance of n. 853 more trees than currently in place, plus newly planted hedges, shrubs and ground cover covering 2,239.43 m2.
